Can't eat prior to induction??

Was anyone else told to stop eating at a certain time prior to starting induction? I have to go in at 6pm on Tuesday they told me not to eat after noon. Why? I don't see why if all they're doing is softening the cervix that night. Or will they check me see where I'm at and perhaps offer me dinner? That's a long time to go without eating. I had gastric sleeve surgery almost two years ago and I eat very small amounts so I get hungry every few hours.
