Yes, HSV Type 2 is the virus that causes genital herpes. If the IGG is positive it means you have been exposed in the past. But with any herpes virus infection you can get symptoms any time. The best thing to do would be to call your OB. They’ll probably have you take an antiviral for a week or so before baby is due to prevent passing it on during delivery, or just have a C section if you have a current sore/infection in the vaginal area when you go into labor. It’s not a big deal if you’re proactive. If you ignore it and do nothing it can cause a major infection that is life threatening to the baby after they are born. Pediatric nurse here. Don’t stress!!!

Nope that’s normal and most people will have positive IgG for HSV-1, HSV-2, or both. Most of us get exposed to them in childhood so we will have IgG antibodies that’s all that means. If the igM was high that could mean a current infection but IgG means antibodies for a past infection, which is the most common result :)
