I need advice!!

So this doesn't really have much to do with like my period or sex but there's this guy at school that I really like him and everyone like his friends and my friends are telling him to ask me to the formal and he said he would but i think it was like because everyone was asking him to and not because he actually likes me and I really want him to ask me but I don't want him to feel forced so what should I do should I give him a note telling him like I don't want him to ask me if he doesn't want to or leave it as it is...
