Car title?

This may be a dumb question but we just buy a new car and it’s my first car I’ve ever bought. When my husband took it to the DMV to get the plates, they didn’t give him the brown title back. Now, I only have the paper work stating we bought the car from the dealership. Do they typically give it back or do they keep it? I’m confused!! We live in Missouri.

I’m in Massachusetts and paid in full. Took 3 weeks to get the title in the mail. Was what he had from the previous owner? If yes, then that’s fine the rmv kept it. I gave the dealership my old one after signing

Depends on where you live I believe bc here in Michigan you get a title in the mail no matter what if you owe money on it , it says there is a lien on it abs can’t be sold till it’s off

You don't get it back until the car is paid off. If it has been paid in full then you'll get it back in a few weeks with your names on the title.
