Does popularity put you off using a name?

Question

When pregnant with my first child I would not go for any popular names and went with something bit unique. This time i like all  the popular/top names lol

Yes I tried to steer clear from popular names for my first and ended up seeing his name everywhere even celebrities were using it lmao 🤣 the second born not so much, I don’t really hear the name and now that I’m expecting a third all I can think is if it’s another boy what the heck would I name him? First was easy, second was hard and a third one will be even harder hahahahaha

The year my daughter was born I specifically chose a name that was out of the top 100 names, and now her name has blown up in popularity and was even the number 1 name on Nameberry one year. 🙄

It does because I don't want my kid being 1 of 20 in class with the same name. My best friend growing up had a super common name and it was really annoying for her. 
I don't have a set favorite name. I like many names, so if something is popular, I have no issue picking another. I suppose if I had a number 1 favorite that was popular, it would have to be special and have a significant meaning to me if I were to use it.

I try not to let it bother me because at the end of the day it’s what my husband and I like. I also always caution people against judging the popularity of a name on this app (or social media in general) because it’s skewed. For example, people on this app say my daughter’s name is very popular but it ranks in the 40s nationwide and at 97 in my own state, per the SSA website. So yeah, a name may be popular somewhere but it certainly doesn’t mean it’s popular everywhere.

I happen to like girl names that are a bit more unique but boy names I really like the traditional/more popular names. We don't know the gender until birth so at first I was torn about naming my girls unique names and boys more popular names but then I got over it and just picked the names we like because we like them ☺️

I was lucky enough to choose a family name for my son that to this day 2 years later NOONE else has named their children.  I looked up his name and it is pretty rare

Nope not at all. My daughter is Aria, super popular. Pregnant with another babe and our favorite girl names are Mila and Lyla - really popular and favorite boy name is Liam - also really popular lol.

No, not necessarily.
But I've always loved this one boy name that has been in top five for more than eight years. That's the only name I love but won't use due to popularity.
But my daughter has a pretty common name. I think it's in top ten still here 3 years later 😂

With my second she’s called Winter (she’s almost 7) never heard the name until the last few years and it’s everywhere, a girl in her year group at school has the same name but spelt different. My son Loki wasn’t too popular, just the odd kid here and there, now I see Loki’s everywhere. My youngest is called Boudica and so far no other child, person in our current lifetime I know/heard of has the same name
