3rd degree tear

I was told it would take 3 months to recover from my 3rd degree tear. I’m now 2 weeks away from that and it still stings at times and is still a bit tender sometimes. Is that normal? I was hoping I would be pretty much back to normal and at this rate I feel like I’m never going to feel the same.
