Question for Midwives and doctors.
Gonna be totally honest here I'm really frustrated with the care I've received this pregnancy and I have been in hospital 5 days of the last 8 and should really be there now but refusing to go in yet again when I know I'll get no where!
Little health history, I have a 4 year old son, he was born at 37 weeks due to pre eclampsia, I had problems with my blood pressure from 16 weeks (was raised but not dangerously) and was medicated from 25 weeks admitted to hospital at 36 weeks (when the other signs of pre eclampsia really kicked into gear and they were struggling to get my meds right to keep my blood pressure down) and he was induced at term for his and my safety. Did have a vaginal delivery we were on way for a section but thankfully I went from 4cm to 10cm in 20 minutes so no surgery needed.
This pregnancy I am under a different health board as I've moved 100 miles. Midwife has been informed of my history but genuinely hasn't taken me seriously. Gave me a home blood pressure monitor at 24 weeks because I was consistently requesting blood pressure checks because I was suddenly swelling (you could watch my hands and face swelling while talking to me)
I am now 38+4, my blood pressure is daily high 140s/90s (thats the lower end of my scale right now) and has on multiple occasions reached as high as 170s/110s.
I wake up with swollen hands and face, visual disturbances (floating lights, blurred vision, double vision) sensitivity to light, constant headache, pain at top of my belly/under my ribs, blood and protein in urine on multiple Midwife appointments and every visit I've been into hospital.
As it currently stands I have no more ante natal visits with anyone, never spoken with a consultant this pregnancy, have no plan from anyone regarding induction or anything. I have literally been left to 'wait for nature to take its course' (midwives words)
My blood pressure today is 156/98, swollen hands and feet, all the same pain and spent most of the day with floating lights across my eyes, now really I should go to hospital but I just know they'll put me on the CTG for a couple hours do 2 blood pressure readings on my elbow (literally my elbow 😑 they can't put a cuff on to save themselves!) And send me away again.
My question is would you treat your patients like this? Would I be out of order putting in a complaint because I genuinely do not feel safe and as though I have been looked after, I feel that my child has been put in danger by their lack of action, I understand they only want to intervene in certain circumstances but at least medication for my blood pressure should be tried no?
Thanks to anyone who got through all of this and for any opinions given. Feeling really frustrated right now and conflicted about calling hospital and wasting a few more hours there or staying home and trying to stay calm and keeping my blood pressure lower.
