Lmao sorry some of these comments are killing me, no but for real just tell him you stink, me and hubby have been together 6 years, we straight up tell eachother "hey you smell funny" or you stink, or you have a booger hanging out of your nose lol its actually quite funny because then we get cracked up about it

Just tell him as casual as possible.  I let my man know that I am proud to be clean hygiene wise so that I can kiss him or get Close to him when I want too and know I smell fresh.  And because I am pregnant he knew smells really bothered me. And well my baby does amazing on keeping his freshness.  On occasion I remind him to brush teeth more then once due to what  I can hand smell wise and surprisingly enough he doesn't get upset.  Good luck.
