Has any of you used progesterone during the pregnancy? Did it have any side effects for you or the baby?

My doctor gave me progesteron to help with my early contractions and i used it, but i am afraid, i don't know why...
Also, has any of you had a pessary or a cerclaj?

I have a cerclage, pessary, and take progesterone injections every week! No side effects and me and baby are just fine!

Progesterone is something your body is supposed to produce...your doc feels you are not producing enough so is giving it to you to help. Its not harmful to baby at all.

I started vaginal progesterone at 4w5d to sustain pregnancy and then had to switch to weekly injections at 16w to prevent contractions... The vaginal made me extremely bloated but other than that no side effects and no harm to baby

I have had the cerclage procedure and have been given progesterone suppositories to take for the 10 weeks following the surgery.  The reason the surgeon gave for this was to help stop the cervix from trying to dilate, which can happen after such aggressive stimulation.

Progesterone is naturally produced by the ovaries during pregnancy and has a number of roles including preventing muscular contractions in the uterus while it is expanding with the babies growth.  Some women who have a short cervix (picked up on ultrasond) are given additional progesterone in order to prevent premature birth by suppressing early contractions.
