SSRI’s ??

Question

i’ve really really been debating on whether or not to take antidepressants but i’m so nervous. can someone please tell me about their experience with them ? :/

I'm on Paxil and it's been very helpful with my depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. I take a low dose of it daily and I'm in therapy as well to work on behavioral changes. I still have times when I experience issues related to the things I listed but they're much milder, spaced out more, shorter and more manageable. IF I run into massive troubles controlling any of the above, I talk with my therapist and figure out if I need medical intervention(psychiatric treatment) or if I can work through it at home. I've been taking this medication for years now and have gotten to the point where I'm allowed to decide if I can take a break from it by proving to my medical team that I can see when I need it, how to identify a crisis, how to get help when I need it etc. I've gone off of it several times with no issues, ALWAYS supervised and tapered off though. Whenever I feel I need to get back on it I'll tell my Dr and they refill my prescription right away. BUT this system works for me and my needs, it's NOT for everyone and not every provider will be accepting of it or encourage it so just know that it's not all that common.

I’m also on Paxil and it’s been such a huge help for em. I’ve taken several different types of SSRI’s in my life, but this one has worked best for me and it’s been about 12 years. I thought it wasn’t doing much anymore until I needed to stop taking it when I was pregnant because it could cause brith defects, and quickly realized I was wrong. I do plenty of inner work, meditation and yoga which is also helpful for my depression and anxiety, but I still had this baseline depression that I couldn’t shake. 
I didn’t want to be on medication again, but I realized I needed to so I could show up as my best self for my family (and me!) I’m so glad I did, too. I’ve been back on it for almost 3 months now and feel so much better. 
Give it a shot- you can always stop taking them (under doctors supervision, of course) if you don’t like it. SSRI’s are not habit forming.

Mine help a lot! Side effects are there but do go away.. it really a question to ask your doctor.
