The stress was worth it in the end
It’s been 4 years since I’ve had a baby and this pregnancy was a tough one at the end. I am exclusively pumping and feeding but i’m new to breastfeeding.
During the third trimester I found out I had Gestational diabetes, on top of that the doctors were telling me my baby had 1 of 3 heart defects but couldn’t be certain which one until after he was born. They also told me his kidney was dilated as well as they said he possibly had a brain abnormality.
I was to deliver at the children’s hospital 45 minutes away from where I lived. The day before delivery I went in for a non stress test and his heart kept dropping from 160-170 to 50-60 bpm.
I went to the children’s hospital the next day (38w3d) for extra monitoring and they said I was fine and sent me home. During the drive home I started having contractions.
When we got home I tried to relax but my contractions were getting closer and more consistent. I had my husband call the hospital because my water hadn’t broke yet so I was unsure if I was in labor or not.
They said to come back. Unfortunately the pain and contractions were so intense I knew I wasn’t making it back. We went to the hospital down the road and when I got there immediately found out I had a bulging bag and was on the verge of delivery.
Within the next 10 minutes I had one push and delivered my baby boy. My first boy my older kids (7&4) were both girls. They checked him over and immediately he was taken by ambulance to the children’s hospital 45 minutes away to be placed in the nicu.
Sadly I had to stay at the current hospital. So my husband went with our son. Thankfully the current hospital allowed me to leave 6 hours later since I had no stitches, no medications, and no complications in the all natural delivery.
We spent 9 days in the NICU and after multiple echos, head ultrasounds and kidney scans they gave him a clean bill of health and we were told he didn’t need any of the surgeries they were expecting!
