Wedding after married?

We are engaged and are planning our wedding for next may. But we were thinking about going to the courthouse to get married and just have our wedding on the day we got married next year. Has anyone ever done this?? What would you have to do to do that if you’re already married?

Many people do. You don't have to do anything special for the ceremony. It's just for enjoyment at that point. You don't need any legal documentation or even a licensed officiant. You can do whatever you want!

This is what we did. We got married at the courthouse legally and then had a wedding later. We only told a few people that we were already married, and still had a ceremony at the wedding before the reception. It was really nice and all the practical stuff had been done already (insurance, name change, etc.)

Our wedding was postponed due to covid so we had a registry wedding with our two best friends, and will still go ahead with our wedding party in 2023. We couldn't match up dates but that doesn't bother us: more special dates to celebrate.

Maybe you should just look into a styled elopement and get married. Or maybe a micro wedding!

I did that! After my husband proposed, we didn't want to wait but as most of my family lives far away, there was no way we could could them all out quickly so we had a wedding on our one year anniversary. We had out best friend officiate, because it didn't need to be legal as it already was, and it was still just wonderful to have the event still.

A close friend of mine did this. She had her actual wedding in 2020 with only their immediate family, and then had a second ceremony to renew their vows one year later in 2021 with maybe 75 people and a fun reception for their guests.

If you like the idea go for it! I personally would just wait until I can afford a small wedding but that’s my opinion. 
All that matters is what you want :)
