Is this just a phase?

So recently my 4 year old hates getting dirty water gets on his shirt or his long sleeves he has a full blown meltdown and wants to get a new shirt on stat. Shoes get dirty from running around at school immediately wants a wipe to clean it off pants get dirty just a bit freaks out. He never cared about this before he used to run in rain puddles and play in sand make mud pies etc.

We didn’t get our much with the pandemic obviously but once parks started to reopen etc we went back and he would play per usual and then just recently all this started.

Any tips and tricks to help him get over this? I explain to him that it’s okay to get dirty it lets mommy know that you’re having so much fun playing and that mommy can just wash the clothes when we get home but that’s not getting through to him
