Am I tripping?

Question

My boyfriend and I been together for a while and we usually talk through our disagreement without any trouble as  we both don’t mind acknowledging whenever we’re in wrong. 
Recently, we’ve been disagreeing on one thing that he keeps repeating. He never answers his phone or text back when he’s out with his friends.
I’ve told him on multiple occasions that I didn’t think that was ok but he’s excuse is “he doesn’t need to be on his phone when his with he’s friend” 
Im definitely not asking him to talk to me 24/7 when he’s with his friend but I do feel he should answer the phone if I’m calling for a specific reason. Usually I just text him when there’s something I need to talk to him about but I end giving him 1-2 calls ones I don’t get a response  for hours.

This weekend he went to a different city with his cousin and he only messaged me when he was leaving. He did not call or text until he was on his way back, which was around 7pm the following day. I’ve shared that i don’t like his behavior but he’s making me feel like im crazy for feeling this way so i don’t know if im tripping or not?

He is allowed to focus his attention on the people he’s with. He is allowed to call you back or text you back at a time that works for him when he’s with his friends. He’s allowed to put down his phone and not answer it so that he can be present wherever he is. You need to give him the space to do that. In a healthy relationship, you should be able to give him space to be with his friends, without it faltering your opinion of him.

My husband checks his phone periodically regardless of who he’s with, so if i called/texted about something important, he would get back to me within the hour. If he’s going to be away for multiple days, i get some kind of update or acknowledgement from him on each of those days. We won’t necessarily have whole conversations, but i always hear something from him. It’s not something we’ve ever discussed, we just both have an understanding that we both want to know whats going on with the other person. Not every couple is like that i guess, but it would be very unusual and uncomfortable for us to not keep each other posted.

Yeah I think it's fine to just focus on the person you are with at that moment, a lot of people feel strongly about not being on the phone when with another person. 
I think it seems too clingy and needy to demand attention when your partner is busy with other people. But that's just my thought, and I don't text people back when I'm busy/don't have the energy. It's okay to have space.
The only text I want my partner to answer when they are out with others is the "are you dead?!" Text 🙃🙃 because sometimes I get scared they're not okay if its been a really long time (like 12 hours or more,) and there is no known reason for that, or if they went out into the woods alone that day and they have not said they're home or anything. 
My partner always stays until it's actually dark 😒 and I'm always telling them to take a flashlight and not get lost.

I feel as though your feelings are valid. My boyfriend will text me back when he’s with friends or family . It takes 10 seconds to send a quick text. Especially with him basically not texting you for the whole day until 7pm. BARE MINIMUM 🤡 as you said, you aren’t asking for him to be texting/calling you 24/7.
