Advice for 2.5 year old tantrums in public
I’m having some issues with my 2.5 year old when we go out in public. She’s normally good sitting down for like the car ride/dinner but if we do anything after that she wants to walk and not sit. Which is totally understandable, she was sitting for a long time already. So I allow her to walk. She sometimes holds my hand, other times gets angry. Then I’ll say “come on, this way” and will just stop and put her hands over her face and whine. I try to ask her where she wants to go, or what she wants to do but she just stands there. I try to be so patient, but after awhile I mean we gotta go lol. So I’ll take her hand or pick her up and then she starts screaming and thrashing. She is in speech therapy for receptive delay so there’s a barrier with communication already and her understanding me when I explain situations.
I mean am I doing the right thing? I try to explain/ talk everything out to her but in that moment she doesn’t care. And my husband, just his personality has little patience for anything, so add in a toddler throwing a tantrum it just ruins the entire mood/ plan. Idk what else to do! I don’t want to avoid outings just because of tantrums. Normally if she throws a tantrum at the house for whatever reason I get on her level, talk to her and she gives me a hug and calms down. But in public it’s not like that.
