Would you expect people to pronounce a common name differently?
So my husbands brother and his Italian (from Rome) wife are having a baby girl and they want to name her Isabel but they don’t want people pronouncing it Iz-uh-bell they want it pronounced ee-suh -bell, like Italians would pronounce it. The issue with this is that that they don’t live in Italy, they live in the US. Everyone and their dog will call her Iz-uh-bell.
Now I get that they can name their kid what they want and ask people to pronounce it how they want but I have to be honest, it feels really weird to say Ee-suh-bell when I myself do not have an Italian accent or speak Italian. It sounds really pretty when my sister in law says it in Italian but for the rest of us Americans saying it it just sounds weird.
I told my brother in law that everyone will call her iz-uh-bell and it will be a whole life or correcting people and getting weird looks. (I said this nicely) and he doesn’t think so 😂 oh well, guess I’m calling this kid Ee-suh-bell.
