Daycare holding fee - would you do it?

I am currently pregnant with my second and due in October but won’t go to daycare until January  
Daycares are on high demand right now so I have no doubt my daughters daycare will be full come January. 
My daughters daycare offered to hold a spot for our second baby. In order to hold a spot we would owe $175 a month from now until January. 
I am debating if it is worth it or not 🥴

Does that money go towards your tuition once baby is enrolled? If not that’s a ridiculous ask. I understand a deposit but monthly tuition until then is insane

Seems odd to me, our childcare centres have a waiting list you go on, but asking for a monthly fee to hold a place seems like a cash grab to me. I’m not sure what I’d do, you’d have to weigh up the risk of not having a spot if you choose not to pay and what your other options for care could be.

So basically for for the spot as if your child is attending, while I get why they’re asking for that - they’re not technically “holding” you a spot lol 
You’d literally be paying for the spot monthly until your baby actually attends . I personally wouldn’t

100% yes. 
We struggled to find daycare and wound up with each kid in a different daycare in a different town! I’m driving 47 miles each day to drop off and pick up and make it to work. It’s insane.

While it’s not clear to me why they need money to hold a spot when there’s not really a spot yet, I would still totally do it in my area. There’s just no childcare available anywhere. For example, I added my newborn to waitlists at two daycares BEFORE 4 WEEKS PREGNANT. I just found out he still won’t get in until he’s at least 18 months old. 😩

I get what they are doing in a way. If there is currently an open spot right now, you are paying to keep it open or else they are losing money not enrolling another baby. But if there is not an open spot I am slightly confused. When my youngest was born we just put down a deposit in August and he was not due to attend until March at 4 months old. We did not have to pay a monthly fee until then.
