Working up until labor is ridiculous and insane (40 weeks)
I’m 40 weeks today, no signs of little dude coming, may have to work until my induction next Monday, I get a measly 12 weeks of unpaid leave from fmla and I’m still working just so I can have that time with my baby. I’ve been in prodromal labor for a week now. My hands and feet are so swollen I can barely walk, yet here I am, getting treated like it’s just another day at work. I tried to call out today, but we are “understaffed” then I get to the office and everyone is here, which makes no sense.
I just think it’s ridiculous that in the USA this is normal, and in other countries they get sometimes over a year off.
I’ve also been treated like crap during my pregnancy from work, since I’m salary they have accommodated my appointments. But at the same time, I haven’t been able to take off a whole day since I told them about the pregnancy. The time off is just denied, saying that they want to give others a fair chance to take time off before I go on maternity leave. As if that’s going to be such a vacation?
Then I come in today, and apparently the place was a disaster over the weekend, and the first thing a coworker says to me is “might want to tell that baby to come out today, we have a ton of stuff on our plate for this week” like thanks dude as if I’m not trying.
