How long did you use a nipple shield?

Please share your experience - why you used it, how long, how you weaned, etc. Thanks!

I used it for ten weeks with my first. We had a very rough start and she had nipple confusion. Plus my nipples were flat and I have an F cup, so that plus engorgement made it extremely difficult for her newborn mouth to latch. By 8 weeks we were in a good groove and her mouth had grown to better handle my nipple so I was able to slowly train her and we weaned fully off my 10 weeks. 
I'd start the feeding with the shield to take the edge off, then nurse directly the last few minutes of the feed. I worked up to taking the shield off sooner and sooner until she no longer needed it.

Probably used 2-3 months with baby #1. One day just tried without it and it worked and we never looked back!

1/2 weeks then I threw that shit away I hated that thing. Didn’t need one in the first place but the stupid lactation consultant convinced me I “needed” it

I used one on my left side only as I had a severely inverted nipple. After about 2 weeks, my son (who latched perfectly on my right side) refused to eat on the left, so I took it off. My nipple was no longer inverted and he latched straight away and we successfully nursed 16 months. With his brother, who was born only 3 months after I stopped nursing my oldest, I never had to use it at all

I used them for baby #1 as I had flat (nearly inverted nipples). As baby got bigger she was able to latch without it maybe 4-5 weeks and after 6 months or so she actually sucked them out and now they stick out 😂 so subsequent babies didn't need to use them.

I tried it one time…ONCE. My girl didn’t know what to do with it, so she bit down - HARD. That was the end of the nipple shield. I think every baby and mama will be different, and you need to find the right fit or brand. I’ve heard they are game changers for some.

Used it with my daughter because she had to do triple feeds due to being extremely jaundice, so she didn’t really learn to latch at first. I used it for about 2 weeks and then weaned her off of it over the course of 3-4 days. I successfully breastfed and pumped for her for 15 months. 😊
