Why do people say you’re not out til you start your period??

I’m not trying to be negative but it gives false hope to me. I don’t know anyone who tested negative a day or two before their period and ended up pregnant

Because you are not out till your period shows for example late ovulation/late implantation low rising hcg!!

Because people's  luteal phase lengths vary, and implantation can occur between 6-12 dpo. People can also misjudge ovulation and not actually be as many dpo as they thought. There are lots of variables.

Because it’s true. Just because you have never seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.  I’ve seen several women have a stark negative at 12DPO and a positive the day they were supposed to start their periods. It isn’t giving people false hope - it’s the truth. A fertilized egg can implant as late 12DPO, which means your first positive wouldn’t even be until 14, at earliest. 
Then you have those who are just going by an app to tell when their periods should be, and those aren’t always accurate as well. 
You’re literally not “out” until you start.

It’s very true. And yes I tested negative the day before my period was late and then two days later it was positive and I was pregnant.

I didn’t test positive until the day after my missed period with my first, but tested positive before with my other two.

Because people can ovulate later than expected or implant very late
With my current pregnancy I got a positive at 9dpo
With my daughter I tested positive at 21dpo which was 8 days late for me
