Job not accommodating pregnancy

33 weeks and my job is not accommodating me. I stand/move for over 8 hours. I’m told to go slow and slow it down. That’s it. We are short staffed on top of it

I stayed home today after a rough day yesterday. My body was aching so bad once I got home.

I’m not sure how much longer I will go if this continues like it has been. I feel like I’m being ran into the ground. My body that is.

I have had both babies in the past before 37 weeks.

I asked my nurse if they could do some type of note to help me out. She said they could do restrictions such as no lifting ….. but I don’t lift. I stand!!

I’m tired of people not being concerned. I’m sorry for my rant but it’s frustrating.

If things don’t get better I think I’ll be leaving my job.

Any suggestions on what I do mamas? This is baby number 3.

Your doctor should write a note, and it’s illegal for a job not to accommodate for pregnant women. Pregnancy is considered a short term disability. This could be considered discrimination. First step though is to get that note from the doc. If they don’t follow the doc’s orders, then I’d file a complaint.

Your doctor can and should absolutely write a note saying your standing restrictions. I’m 31 weeks and my doctor doesn’t want me on my feet more than a few hours per day especially without a back brace and compression stockings, and when I am up and about I’m I directed to take frequent rests to prevent muscle spasms and such strong Braxton hicks. You have to listen to your body to prevent preterm labor and it sounds like yours is telling you to stop all the time on your feet. Your doctor needs to help you out here. A time limit of how much you can stand without breaks should be the minimum they can do for you. I would call the doctor and let them know this is necessary and ask how you go about getting this from them.

And really I would consider going part time if it’s something they will offer or letting them know you need more frequent breaks to continue this schedule to prevent preterm labor and complications for your baby. This is you and your baby’s health so self advocate - don’t be afraid to speak up!!

I’m sorry your going through this pregnancy is hard enough ☹️ I’m a care assistant but work for an agency company so we provide care when places are short staffed so when I was working although I was supposed to be on lighter duties most places I was sent were very short staffed and I had to do a lot of heavy work that I was advised against but then I realised no amount of money is worth risking the safety of my baby and I stopped working at 30 weeks. I was the same as yourself I was in a lot of pain and after 1 shift I needed a couple of days to recover. Maybe it would be possible for you to do shorter hours? It’s very difficult financially I was lucky enough that my partner has a good job and was able to support me. I hope you get it sorted out just remember to put yourself first and look after you and baby that’s the most important thing 🤍
