Maternity leave?

At how many months would you say it is normal to be on maternity leave? I know everyone is different and depends on how they feel. But it's just to get a rough idea

I’m super lucky to live in Canada and have the option to take up to 18 months off. With my first child I only took 12 months but for my second I am taking 18 months. I felt guilty telling work that I wanted 18 months off at first but then finally I was like f-it I’m never going to get this time with my children again, so I shouldn’t feel bad about taking advantage ❤️ I don’t love everything about Canada, but I love that my country supports women being at home with their young children.

Well normal my society's standards would be 12 weeks.
As a mother, I think it should be 6 months at least.

In the US it depends on state. At my job (in NY) I'll have 6-8 weeks of short term disability at full pay (thankfully I got promoted earlier this year, because in my old role/job classification I only would've been paid half my salary during my STD) followed by 12 weeks of paid family leave (only paid at 67% my salary), which I'm going to take intermittently so I can go back to work pt after my STD ends and I can spread out the amount of time I get to spend with the babies. But it all depends on so many things, your state, your employer, etc. I feel like most in the US really aren't entitled to any sort of paid mat leave at all, and it's bogus.

In NJ you’re eligible for 10-12 weeks disability (4 before, 6-8 after birth), then 12 weeks of baby bonding time if you meet certain criteria with employment

With my first in 2017 I got 8 weeks, which was my sick time. This time I get 12 weeks, 8 weeks maternity, and 4 weeks bonding. 
I'm 2021 my job offered 4 months short term disability, but they ended that as of 2022.
I thought that 12 weeks wasn't enough, but talked to my neighbor who got no paid time off, and she only took 2 weeks. So I'm grateful for what I get.

6-12 weeks is normal in the US. The max you can take is 12. 6 is really the minimum you need to heal and most people don’t feel ready that early but some go back for financial reasons since maternity leave is unpaid.
