Flange size?! It’s so hard to tell.

Question

The hospital set me up with a 24 mm flange and Iv been using it. Finally getting some colostrum so I’m really excited about that but I’m worried about the flange size, the lactation lady didn’t even look at my breast 😅 my little man is in NICU so I’m exclusively pumping for the time being but I want to nip any bad habits in the bud. How does this look to you experienced ladies? Iv considered ordering a measuring thing but when I’m not pumping my no poles are completely flat so I’m not really sure where nipple starts and stops 🥲

I think it looks fine. If your nipple is rubbing too much it might be a tad small.

Is this before you've pumped or after? If before it's definitely too small, but if during/after as long as it doesn't hurt I'd say it looks good. 
Hospital lactation consultants are generally just nurses who have taken a class, not actually trained in breastfeeding and they certainly aren't trained in pumping of any kind. Get hooked up with a private LC or reach out to your local La Leche league.

I would try to meet with a lactation consultant outside of the hospital if you can. Is this before pumping or after pumping? If it’s before pumping, it seems like they may be a bit small and your nipple will rub against the inside.
