Would you travel with a 6 week old? (Car ride)

I’m stuck. Would you drive 8 hours with an infant? Half of me is nervous about even driving far, having to stop so much for feeds etc, nervous about germs in gas stations and such but half wants to visit my sister to meet baby and get a slight ‘vacation’. I can’t decide.😩

I've done 10+ hour trips with all my kids as newborns. No biggie, they slept alot. We stopped alot. 🤷🏽‍♀️

My biggest issue would be you should stop every 1,2-2 hours for at least half an hour to stretch baby's back. The rest can be fixed by bringing stuff along that helps.

I don't think I could be bothered. I'd ask sister to visit you. I was told no more than 2hrs drive with newborn as a carseat is not conducive to getting proper amount of oxygen.

We did it at 7 weeks and have no regrets! Yes, the trip takes MUCH longer than usual since you have to stop every 2/2.5 hours or so to feed and let baby stretch, but it was so fun to make those memories with her (for us, obviously she won’t remember lol) As for germs, we did an 11 hour trip and I did not use a single gas station or rest stop bathroom. We did all of our nursing and diaper changes in the car, or outside in the grass/picnic area at rest stops! I also sat in the back seat with her the whole way which I would recommend so you can provide comfort and make sure babe is snug and safe in the car seat for that longer duration.

Besides the baby’s welfare is sounds like a miserable trip for you! I’d wait at least until 12 weeks to travel. Babies start to get a little more predictable by then.

I mean 6 weeks olds sleep a lot so if you plan your route and know about where you're stopping you can keep a consistent travel time and make planned stops for the most part.
I personally wouldn't take a 6 week old on a trip only due to the fact they're not vaccinated yet and there's too many variables nowadays and icky people EVERYWHERE with no respect for others so there's no telling what you'll pick up on your stops.

Yup. We traveled 6 hours at about 3 weeks. Lots of breaks, no big deal.

3 of my 4 kids screamed on longer car rides, so no lol. If your child just sleeps, then sure.

Just for someone to meet my baby? No. I’d have them come to me. We traveled when my daughter was 3 weeks old and again at 8 weeks old to meet my mom and then to attend my moms funeral. It was rough but doable. We stopped every 2 hrs or sooner depending on her need to eat.
