UPDATE Sugar free families
Update 2:
Some time has passed now and I am so thankful for all these information.
I now introduced Gummibears in our “diet” as well as some kids crackers (yes, we didn’t even have them before) and ice cream (pop sticles) which went better than expected. She can stop herself eating Gummibears.
But I also tried to introduce chocolate as she was crying for it. Well, it did not went well. We had tantrums all day long as she wanted more!
I am not sure if it was the right approach. My husband is also not happy about us having sugar at home again as he can’t control himself and just binge eats a lot of the sweets. 🎂🍪🍫🍬🧁🍩
Feel free to PM me if you want some exchange.

Update: I am completely overwhelmed by all your answers! I realised at her first binge eating that being strict on sugar could create a huge problem in the future.
I do wonder and struggle how to get the balance right and how to implement now sweets in her life. I don’t want her to eat sugar all the time.

As I was a kid I was allowed to eat as many sweets as I wanted. We also had lots of sweets at home. I was never overweight. I am a healthy eater and love to do some sports.
As an adult I changed my diet: sugar free and home made. Now I have got two kids of my own. I thought I do it better than my parents and banned sugar and fast food! I cook fresh every day and we also don’t often have bread and pasta.
Well, it seems like it backfired.
My older daughter is three and completely overeats whenever there are sweets around! On play dates she eats her friends foods and asks their parents for more. I already dislike social events as it makes me feel bad!
My daughter is not skinny, she gets enough food at home but I wonder if these restrictions affected her?
Anyone who has experiences with sugar free homes? I thought I am doing my kids a favour :(
Well I know started to introduce sweets and it seems like she is handling them better now. I make homemade cake with sugar free sugar alternatives and kidney beans to add some healthy stuff. I give her a bit of cake with her meals to make them less forbidden or exotic.
But it feels so wrong! My daughter had a bit of cake now nearly every day!
I would love to hear your experiences and thoughts.
