Struggling FTM (preeclampsia)

Amber

I had a routine check-up yesterday (Friday 8/5) and when I arrived I mentioned I was feeling some pretty serious abdominal pain. They checked my blood pressure and did some blood work. My blood pressure was 147/85. Obviously, this alarmed them.

I was told to go home and continue to monitor my blood pressure and if it continued to stay elevated to check in to L&D over the weekend for monitoring. My blood pressure stayed elevated around the same numbers at the doctor.

This morning I woke up and blood pressure was 141/87. I called the on call OB and she advised me to go to L&D for monitoring.

When I arrived at L&D my blood work from the previous day had come in showing high protein in my urine and a very high white blood cell count and of course my BP was elevated. Baby girl and I were monitored for several hours (baby is still doing great, thank god) and they repeated the same tests as yesterday.

Long story short, I was diagnosed with preeclampsia at 22 weeks & 5 days and I’m 31 years old. Naturally, I was instantly terrified of this diagnosis and I really don’t know much about it still…

I have a follow up appointment at my OB on Monday to discuss the diagnosis and create a game plan. I know I’ll have more answers on Monday but I can’t help but feel incredibly sad right now.

Has anyone else gone through this at only 22/23 weeks? What should I expect from here on out?

I’m not overweight, I take my prenatal’s religiously, I eat fairly healthy, and the doctor advised me that it’s out of my control but I can’t help but feel like I’ve done something to potentially harm my baby.. I feel incapable of taking care of my baby girl…
