HSG How was it?

For anyone who has had an HSG done how was it? Was the discomfort/pain manageable? Any side effects? Did it give you answers?

It was painful, had to let the radiologist know that I was about to pass out but I was thinking “I have to do this because I’m sure labor pains are just like this!” I had no blockages in my tube (only have my left one since first ectopic took my right one) 
I fell pregnant that same cycle but sadly it was ectopic on the remainder of my right tube 
But it worked! I would recommend it

It very much depends on your dr. I went to a fertility dr and immediately burst into tears because of the things I read beforehand. I took like 5 pain pills and was freaking out. The Dr came in and told me they don’t use a balloon or a lot of equipment and mine wasn’t painful, but of course not comfortable. My right tube was dilated and blocked and I’ve had surgery since. I would talk to your dr about what their process is.

I took some ibuprofen before mine. It was painful. There was a moment of discomfort on one side that was having some difficulty spilling over, so radiologist had to apply more pressure to clear it, but it really wasn’t too bad. I had some mild cramping for a few hours after. I did get pregnant that same cycle after 16 mo of ttc. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant. I will say, that I hear it can be more painful if you do have some blockage, but I’ve also heard it just varies with people. Maybe just different pain tolerances. Good luck!

Mine wasn’t painful, only uncomfortable. Mainly bc the speculum is in a long time. I got pregnant the same month, and now I have a beautiful 14 month old daughter. 💕

I’ve had the HSG done twice in the past year. When I had the first one done, they told me my tubes were open and I got pregnant a few months later. That pregnancy turned out to be ectopic. Then about 6 months after that I had a second one done to see if my tubes were open after the ectopic and they still are. Neither one was really painful, just uncomfortable for a couple minutes. It’s over pretty quickly.

I had a HyCoSy. It was very painful, I almost passed out. My dr. had to stop the procedure halfway through!

I’ve had 2 kids via cesarean and my HSG was the most painful procedure I’ve ever had 😫 I only had one tube and it was blocked so that may why it was so bad I almost passed out.

It was absolutely terrible - thought I was going to faint - and I didn’t even have any blockages. The doctor who performed mine was a moron, so I’m sure that was part of the problem, but it was so bad.

It was awkward and uncomfortable. I took a painkiller 30 minutes earlier. But it felt like period cramping. It was 20 minutes max. Don't worry..
