Maternity Leave?

Today has been a tough day! Working and pregnancy SUCKS (yes I’m dramatic) I’m 33+w and everything hurts and aches… 
When did everyone go on leave from their jobs? I’ll be around 36w when I finish up. 
*I understand that most people in USA 🇺🇸 work right up until 40w (hats off to you) because they don’t have paid leave for new parents which is stink. Most parents can’t afford unpaid time off. 
*I live in NZ and we get 6m paid maternity leave.
UPDATE: 
* this is my second pregnancy and I don’t remember my 1st being this bad. The heartburn, the pelvic pain. 
* I’m a nanny/ Early Childhood Teacher.. meaning running after kids all day. It’s becoming increasingly difficult running around after children all day. Plus tired, hormonal etc. 
* I was hoping to work up until end of month/start of October. But I’m miserable.. and then if I go on leave too early then I’ll chew into my 6 month leave (I don’t really want to do that)

In Norway we have to start maternity leave at 37 weeks. Most starts earlier because they are on medical leave. 
We can choose to have 49 weeks with 100% of our normal paycheck or 59weeks with 80% of our normal paycheck.

US here. I worked until about 3 (maybe less??) hours before labor began, and I returned at 9 weeks (and only that long because spring break was in there and bought me more time). For context, I am a teacher, elementary at that time.

I worked up until delivery by choice, I wanted to be sure to spend all my paid leave when home with baby! That was 38 weeks for me - I do have a desk job with an amazing work family. I will be doing the same this go around if I can

I’m in the US and a teacher. I worked until about 14 hours before my daughter was born. Only get 12 weeks so I wanted to make sure I spent it all with her.

I live in new Zealand to 🎉 it's really different to recommend because you do want to spend as much time with baby once it's born so it's always best to leave it as late as you can like 38 weeks but also depends on how stressful your job is and being a nanny would be quiet stressful. as this is your second I guess only you can determine the best time for your body and baby

I’m in NZ and my last child was born in 2020 so I only got 5 months PPL. I finished up at 35w but only that early because my older child was about to start the school year so it made sense to finish before then so I didn’t have to find after school care etc. I’m TTC again and this time I will work right up until the week before my csection so I can have as much paid leave as possible before returning to work.

I'm Canadian, I went on leave at 36 weeks, I barely made it that far though 🤣 I was probably the most useless employee in history by that point.  I could do 90% of my job.

I live In the US and stopped at 32 weeks, however, I was financially able to. If you are able to, take that leave!
