Is it wrong to use a name that my cousin used for her son?

I have a cousin that I rarely see and her son is named Kalub. I have always like the name but wanted to spell the name Caleb. Is it wrong if I use the same name but with diff spelling?

Idk it depends on the person, there are 3 types of people. The ones who would be flattered, the ones who could think that you forgot that they are alive and well and think you just don't know that their child has that name and could be jealous and lastly the one who could say she doesn't care about the name and that you can have it but will talk behind your back saying you stole their child's name. All 3 have happened in my family. I would simply just ask and if the 3rd option happens I would simply say to anyone who has something rude to say "I asked she didn't have a problem with it"

My son's name is Brandon, and I have a cousin who has a son named Brendan. They're close and similar in spelling, but there's nothing wrong with using the same names. Plus, kalub looks like a weird spelling- to me it looks as if it sounds like "kah-lube." Just my thought.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I'd be flattered if my cousin wanted to name their son the same name as mine.

I said no because only because I was in your situation. We had chosen the name Joshua but hadn't really told anyone. Then a few weeks before I was due my mother in law told my husband we can't have that name because his cousin (who's 12 and we never see-- who I had never even met, & they live states away) is named Joshua. So I left the decision on my husband but he didn't seem to care (because we never see them) and liked the name so my son ended up with the name anyway. I will say that I think it's hilarious and slightly annoying that my MIL only called my child by his middle name for the first yr of his life--I think the only reason she stopped is because everyone else calls him by his first name and he wouldn't respond to her calling his middle name. My son is 2.5 now and I finally met our cousin Josh for the first time this past summer and let's just say his mamma didn't even know my child's name was josh also. Apparently when my MIL announced to that side of the family she never told them his actual name but his middle name 😑. My husbands aunt just seemed surprised and we both kinda said aww when we realized we both call them the same nickname too "joshie" and the whole weekend we ended up calling the big josh and little josh and I honestly don't think it was a big deal. Eh, I say do it. Caleb is way better anyway lol

I think it depends on how close your family is, and how big it is. 
My family is pretty small, so we probably won't reuse names from my side. But my partners family is HUGE so we are less worried about "stealing" names from his side.
