Choking on saliva

Hi my baby is 2 months old and just started having excess saliva/spit the last two days… and is constantly choking on it to the point where I have to pick him up while he’s gasping for air. Is this normal or what causes this? Should I be worried.. I’m up all night as he’s choking.
