Hospital time?

When do you know it’s time to go to the hospital other than your water breaking? How long do contractions have to be/how far apart/ how long?

My last delivery I knew after the 3rd or 4th contraction that we needed to go. This was my 4th so labor was super quick. Almost too quick! Had we not left when we did, little babe would’ve been born in our brand new car! 😂 I felt the urge to push on the way to the hospital but I was like HELL NO! Got to the er at 3:50AM  Rory was born at 4:35AM

I was told when contractions are so strong you can't talk and are having at least 3 every 10 minutes. I followed this rule with my 1st and was about 5cm when I arrived at hospital and gave birth about 6 hours later. With my 2nd though I was crowning when I arrived at hospital and gave birth 15 minutes later 😂 so be careful!

I follow the 5-1-1 rule except my contractions progressed pretty quickly after laboring at home for a few hours. We had a 45+ minute drive to the hospital so I was hoping to have left sooner, my contractions were 3 minutes apart lasting for 1 minute for 1 hour (my husband was running around in a panic) as my husband loaded the car. I finally yelled to him "WE HAVE TO GO!" 
I was only 3cm dilated when we got to the hospital so they had me wait for two hours and checked again, I was then at 5-6 and got admitted.

I personally went when I was crying and couldn't stand the pain anymore however, it was my second pregnancy and I delivered within 15 minutes of being in the hospital so be careful 😂

5-1-1 rule wasn’t correct for me. Go when the contractions are unbearable.

There are a few factors... there is a general guide of 5-1-1 but it depends on what your OB recommends also if there is any underlying health considerations. 
If you are a significant distance from the hospital you may leave earlier and if want epidual they take time for the hospial to organise once there..or if you want to labor mostly at home you may leave later then the guide.  I was low risk with my first and lived 30min from hospital so I left when my contractions were less then 5min apart and lasting 1min as I wanted to labor mostly at home.

It’s usually 5-1-1.  5 minutes apart lasting one minute for one hour.
