Is it okay to try my breast pump at 36 weeks?

FTM here, I want to try and see if I’m producing any colostrum yet (I haven’t noticed any leak) and try to get a general idea of how to work my breast pump. I’ve heard that this can send you into labor early so I’m a bit hesitant but I’m just curious to see what other moms think

No. It’s not worth the risk. 
It’s also best to have doctors approval to attempt to express colostrum.
Leaking or not leaking doesn’t indicate supply. 
You’ll have plenty of time to play around with your pump! It’s best to avoid pumping (unless exclusively pumping obviously) in the first 6 week unless away from baby.

If you want to see if you’re producing colostrum, you can hand express and collect it syringes then freeze. Pumps aren’t great at getting colostrum out because it is thick and sticky—hands work better. And knowing how to hand express can be a total game changer, so extra practice is great.
