How do so many people get their hcg levels checked?

I don’t think I was ever told my level or if it was even brought up with my last pregnancy. Just curious.

It’s not standard to get levels taken. Usually if someone has beta hcg draws taken it is for bleeding, cramping, an ultrasound issue, or they have a history of miscarriage, it’s an IVF pregnancy, etc.

My ob didn't want to see me for my first appointment until I was 8+ weeks. But when I called their office at 5wks because of bright red bleeding,  they saw me immediately same day to test my levels then again after 2 days. 
I also have friends who have had miscarriages in the past, so because of that their docs want to see them for beta draws and progesterone levels immediately when they receive a positive test. 
And then lastly, there are those doctors who just don't care to waste your money so they'll do 2 or 3 beta draws if you call in and request it
Point is, beta draws are really not necessary unless you've had an issue in the past or got pregnant due to fertility treatment

I have had recurrent miscarriages, so I’ve had mine checked multiple times early on, followed by multiple (this time around weekly) ultrasounds.

With my first pregnancy I never had my HCG checked 
Second pregnancy they checked because I tested positive at home but not at their office and that ended in miscarriage 
Third pregnancy they went right for checking my levels but the crappy part was my regular doctor was out of town so I had to use this different doctor who refused a 48hr draw because he believed that if he got a “base line number” it’ll be fine and if we checked my HCG again it’ll stress me out. It stressed me out more not knowing. Ended up having some pretty bad cramping on one side, they brought me in and then decided to do another draw which was a week after my first. I’m now 10w today. Praying this rainbow baby sticks 🌈🤞🏼

I went through IUI and had to keep seeing my fertility specialist until I was 8 weeks. During all those appointments in the first few weeks is when I had my HCG levels checked. It was just making sure things were progressing well since I was undergoing fertility treatments. After I was cleared to be discharged from my fertility specialist,  I was able to start seeing my regular ob for all appointments and they didnt check HCG that I knew of.
