Early Labour?

leahlilyrose

I’m 35+4 weeks pregnant and the last few days I’ve been experiencing dizziness and the odd few cramping pains, but they haven’t been bad. However last night around 7pm i started getting a really low and constant dull ache inbetween the very bottom of my bump and pubic bone. I managed to sleep the night but I’m experiencing the same pain today and the pain is almost identical to period cramps. The pain now is less constant and more cramping, the cramps aren’t regular either and it’s hard to tell when the pain gets worse as the pain never fully goes away. Has anyone else experienced period like pains as the very start of labour? I went to see the midwife this morning to check everything is okay, she has written his head is 3/5 palp but also written ‘ head well engaged’ . The midwife didn’t really listen to me if I’m honest, she mainly just said keep an eye on it so i have no idea what is going on and as it’s still early I’m a little worried. I haven’t noticed my stomach getting a lot tighter either, i wouldn’t say it’s braxton hicks.

What were your first symptoms?

I’m 35 weeks tomorrow and also have been having the menstrual cramps you’re talking about. I see my OB this Thursday so I’m going to bring it up to her, but I know she will most likely say my body is just getting ready for labor! If you’re concerned I would bring it to your midwife’s attention again.

Some women experience braxton hicks throughout their pregnancy. Most often the signs of labor are contractions that you can't talk through that are consistent or your water breaking. If you went to see your provider and they weren't concerned then I would leave it at that. I've been experiencing tons of contractions after losing huge bloody chunks of mucus plug, I'm 50%effaced and dilated. Most of this happened or has been happening for weeks now and I'm still pregnant.

This sounds totally normal to me. Once baby's head engages, it puts a lot more pressure on all of your ligaments and can cause that constant off and on cramping feeling at the bottom of your bump as you describe. I've had it all three pregnancies for weeks and never delivered early

I’ve been feeling the exact same my way and my doctor told the exact same thing

I had my son at 34+5 weeks and my first sign was my water broke, the pushed me into labour though because I was at a high risk of infection. He had to come within 24 hours of my water breaking. I’d get a second opinion if your not comfortable with the answers the midwife gave you. Never hurts to see elsewhere but I feel like you could probably be in early labour for awhile if I am not mistaken and still go to term.
