baby proofing?

i'm a ftm and i was wondering at what age do you start baby proofing your home? i'm assuming it's when they are close to the crawling age but i'm not sure when that is. and also any recommendations for products would be greatly appreciated! 😊

I'm really surprised that no one seems to anchor their furniture as a way of baby proofing. When we moved in to our home we anchored everything to the walls so it can't fall on top of our toddler and baby. Children and infants have been killed or seriously injured by falling dressers, bookshelves, wardrobes, and TV stands. We also put locks on cupboards where we keep cleaning products, sharp knives, and medication.

I never really did, aside from moving dangerous/breakable items to higher shelves/cupboards. We never used any of the edge guards or cupboard locks or toilet locks or doorknob locks…we found it unnecessary.

Around 10-11 months when they start becoming super active. My twins are 11 months now and into EVERYTHING. I put in the plug in ones to the outlet, put locks on the cleaning chemical cabinet, then I have 2 gates I put up one in the kitchen/dining room when I’m cooking and so they don’t get the Christmas tree, then I have a gate in the hallway so they can’t get into the bathroom. Then eventually I’ll add safety locks to the doors.

We didn't with my first because I could be with her always and she wasn't a risk taker or tried to eat things off the floor. My second however is the type of baby that climbs anything and will eat anything he finds and loves wrapping anything long around himself.. sooooo yeah we had to mount all the furniture to the walls, bookcases, shelving, cupboards, dressers etc. All plugs are protected and cables hidden as much as possible. We use door wedges in any doors that are kept open because he will swing them around otherwise.. anything toxic put in a safe place etc. There is more we could do (table corners etc) but for now I think that's good. He's just 13 months at the moment.

I didn’t baby proof much. Covers on the knobs of our gas stove when baby started standing (around 11 months). And gates at the steps, we put those up at 6 months. We didn’t bother with anything else.
