Who does it belong to

Question

If the child is over 18 who does the social security, birth certificate, adoption papers, school papers/records belong to? A few people I know told me that once they turned 18 and were trying to move out, get a job, etc that their parents wouldn’t give them any forms of ID.

Answer

All of it belongs to the child all the time. Parents just keep it until the child is old enough to be responsible with their documentation. People who refuse to give their children their legal documentation once they are grown have MAJOR issues. I personally couldn't keep a relationship with a crazy parent who thinks they own my SS card and birth certificate.
