Starting kindergarten on time?

Is anyone getting pressure from outside people to keep your June baby back a year from Kindergarten? My MIL brings it up all the time and it’s starting to annoy me. Like if we feel he’s not ready, sure, because he’ll be one of the youngest in his grade, but also stop bugging me about it. Her main thing is she says kids who are older in their grade are better at sports. Which I one, don’t really feel is true, and two, could literally care less about 🤣
Just wondering if anyone is considering this and why…I don’t want to totally discount her thoughts but also sports alone is not enough reason.

The sooner the better. In Cali kindergarten starts at 5 but they do offer transitional-kindergarten at 4, which I’m  really hoping Eva gets in. So my advice is don’t listen to you MIL, if your child turns out not ready the school system will let you know. It’s their job to make sure the child is successful.

As someone who was held back because I was the youngest in my class, I’m planning on sending my daughter a year later. My birthday is 8/30 and our school birthday cut off was 9/1, so I just barely made it. I was always intellectually fine, I comprehended everything but I couldn’t do things like hold scissors or sit still. In first grade my parents found this out because a sweet teacher said to them. She said she is plenty smart enough but just physically behind; to the point a they tested me for ADHD & lots of other stuff. When I repeated the first grade it made things so much easier. I even tested into the gifted program. I’m so grateful my parents held me back. I had a friend who was a June 1 baby and she was always really immature. 
I’m planning on not sending my daughter until she’s already 5.

Kids here (Montreal, Canada) don’t start kindergarten until they’re 5! We do have a Pre-Kindergarten for age 4 but I don’t think I’ll be sending him to that (my husband wants but I’m not ready to give him an extra year of school lol) He will be going at 5 forsure, he can enjoy being home 2 more years with mama 🥰 We also have the right to an evaluator for our kids so they’ll be able to tell if your child is ready or not for school, sports isn’t a reason to keep them behind in my opinion!

Here they don’t start until they’re 5 so he’s going to preschool another year after this one. Everyone did make comments saying “he’s too small, poor baby. Keep him home another year.” but because he’d have to go for 2 years before kindergarten instead of just one.

I think there are totally valid reasons for holding them back one year if you don’t think they’re ready (for whatever reason.) I listen to a podcast that touched on this and how kids who weren’t ready, and waited a year, it didn’t “hold them back” at all but helped them excel. To be good at sports isn’t a valid reason though imo 😄.

I’m considering it based on my son’s behavior. I’m not sure he will be ready maturity wise.
