1st I waited bc I didn’t know when 
Now I know what signs to look for I want to feed my baby already bc he’s ready, checks all the signs, appointment won’t be for awhile for his next check up 
Don’t know if I want to wait that long

You don't have to have a doctor tell you when to feed your baby food but your baby needs to be at LEAST 6 months old.

If you are meaning solids (as you did not specify what you’re feeding). Your child MUST be at least 6m old with all ready signs met. If a dr says ok at 4m, that doesn’t mean you should start then. It means that the dr isn’t up to date with current major health organizations recommendations like he should be.

I waited until 6 months with the approval of my pediatrician to start my son on solids. I wouldn’t ever start them before 6 months in my person opinion. 
I always fed my child when they were hungry. He had severe acid reflux so he was on Zantac at two months and we had to put oatmeal in his bottle, (pediatrician approved as a medically necessary method) to keep the formula down. 
I really wasn’t sure what type of feeding you were referring to so I answered both. 🤷‍♀️

if you think he is ready and of suitable age then you don't need to check with a doctor, you as the parent can assess that. I recommend from 5-6 months
