She said Lizzo is heavy. What is body positivity?

Jud

I was in a town fundraiser as a way to network and get to know the people in his town as I try and grow my business.

My primary career is fitness and social media so it's common for people to approach me for tips and workouts and such.

That's how (A) came up to me, she said she's wanted to ask for some gym tips.

We got to talking and she told me she had lost a whopping 100 lbs. She mentioned she had been a heavy girl, kind of like Lizzo and she's now feeling so healthy and energetic.

Another lady (K) overheard, and said "Excuse me, body-shamimg is not funny. You could do a lot of damage to someone. Who are you to say Lisso is heavy?"

A said "Oh, I'm actually talking about myself and how I lost a lot of weight and want to continue to get healthier", K responded saying that it's women like us who set unrealistic standards of what beauty should be, and we're teaching girls that you can only be beautiful if you're skinny, and how fat shaming is cruel. And why it would do us some good to learn some body positivity.

I said "Mam, this is a personal conversation and we're not shaming anyone." She said to me "You have no right to comment, you are surgerized to look like a slut." My jaw dropped, I responded "Oh, so name calling and slut-shaming is body positive?"

Look I've been very open about my plastic surgery and am well aware that a body like mine may trigger a lot of people but I in no way try to impose my lifestyle on anyone.

K said we will traumatize our kids with this toxic thinking. And A responded that if body positivity means yay-saying unhealthy habits, she wanted no part in it, and since K was all up in her business, yes in fact she was teaching her daughter healthy eating habits and exercise since she from experience knows what is on the side of being morbidly obese and no amount of criticism can take away the fact that now she can go riding with her daughter and is feeling 20 years younger and yes, on top of that she feels more beautiful.

A lot more was said, but now I want to ask. What is body positivity? Because it seems that if you're a person who cares about their health and appearance that's somehow the evil enemy of body positivity. And it feels like the only people who get triggered are the people doing nothing about it. K is in fact a very heavy person but I would've never even noticed if she hadn't been so nosy and harsh.

It's been hard making friends in this new town and now I have this negative connotation as well.
