Allergies caused by candles?

My husband has had allergies since marrying me. I assumed they were because of moving to a different state. But recently I have heard candles and even essential oils could be the cause of allergies. He only started being around those things after he married me. 
Now our 15-month-old son also has allergies.
Does anyone else experience allergies from these things? What is the cause exactly?

Could be from the candles. A great way to find out is to stop burning candles and see if the allergies go away. ￼Allergies can literally be caused by anything. Additionally, you can have allergy like symptoms without actually having allergies. I have vasomotor rhinitis, which is basically my nerves causing blood vessels to react to every little thing with inflammation as if I was allergic to it. ￼￼

They may be irritated by fragrance. 
It may also just be something in your area that they're allergic to.
