Poor experiences with atheists

I work in the scientific community in pharmaceutical research and a lot of coworkers and partners I meet are very openly atheistic. They seem to talk about it a lot, not outwardly saying “I’m atheist” but by saying snide things like “I’m sure no matter how often we scientists help humanity, they’ll still thank their God instead and not us.” It always come across to me as very self centered, like you’re only doing this work for praise and recognition and you’re jealous someone is praying to a God. I asked a man who said a similar comment once “so you consider yourself a God then?” and he got pretty offended. But I truly do not understand why almost every atheist I’ve ever met has this sense of superiority and inflated perception of themselves. This is truly my experience with atheism. Myself and a few others in my lab are religious, one of them is Jewish and the rest Christian, and there’s this one man who is constantly saying something about it. Nothing direct, it is always snide with this air of ego and pompousness. “Going home for Christmas so you can celebrate a fictional birth by decorating a fake pine tree? Sounds like a blast.” Like, why are you trying to start shit? It’s so juvenile. And yes these are all adults with advanced scientific degrees! It astounds me. It has put a really bad taste in my mouth concerning atheists. They will also constantly say things like they don’t understand how someone can believe in a “sky daddy” but not science. Even thought I’m a woman of science, I said the two are completely separate and actually my study of science has proved the existence of God to me many times. There are such intricate patterns in every chemical, form of matter, etc. that are just so magnificent and stunning that I cannot fathom they randomly occurred without divine creation. Anyway… has anyone else had this experience with atheists?

(If you’re an atheist and not like this, I tip my hat to you!!)
