transvaginal?

Question

has anyone else heard that transvaginal u/s could br harmful? Maybe weakin the cervix or introduce bacteria into the cervix? 
​ i have heard u/s in general bc if the radiation could possible be not great for baby or mother. 
​i had a m/c a few days after a transvaginal a few months ago and im pregnant again and considering not letting them go "up in there" again.
​Sound reasonable or insane?

​i have had them bf with my first pregnancy and no problems it prob was jus a concidence that  i jad a mc days after, they saw the hb on the abdominal us so doing a trans was really unecessary, but all in all i will still likely decline to ever have a trans again unless its super necessary.

MC's are usually caused by something not "right" during the developing process. I think it may have been a coincidence. I was told my baby didn't have a heartbeat but normal U/S and when they did the transvaginal they heard it right away. I haven't had any complications. As for introducing bacteria into your body seems a little far fetched because hopefully the dr is clean and so are you so that wouldn't be an issue. I think they are more helpful than harmful.

With my previous mc I had bleeding after doing a transvaginal ultrasound but I had about 5 in one week because they couldn't find anything at first in my uterus so they kept trying to find it because they thought I was having an ectopic pregnancy, but they found the baby finally and it had a heart beat of 90  but 4 days after I miscarried.. I've decided next time I get pregnant I'm going to decline

I've had them and they haven't hurt my baby it caused me complications. My mom had them every month when she was pregnant with me and I turned out just fine :)

I declined the trasnvaginal u/s.  They said because I was thin they could try the one on my tummy, so they did and managed to get good images with a heartbeat at 6 weeks... You have a right to choose your treatment.

In the uk they don't even do vaginal so it's not necessary really.

Ultrasounds don't emit radiation, images are produced via sound waves.  But if you don't feel comfortable about a procedure it's worth a discussion with your doc.

Sounds reasonable to me, they don't really know how ultra sound effects the fetus cells. When they are bigger they typically try to move away from it. I don't believe it is needed so early and you could always ask the doctor to hold off until 12-13 weeks. Usually that is when my midwife sees someone for a first appointment and typically only uses a Doppler to hear the heart beat.
