Late but negative test?

First off I have been ttc since February 2014, this is my second time being late but this time I'm almost a month late. Last period was April 10-14   Nothing since then the last test I took (ept) on Saturday before I took it I glanced at it and it seemed to already have the negative line through it. This would be my second child but first with my husband. I'm a little confused. Are the test that just say pregnant or not pregnant better? Someone help!!
