IVF process, injections, etc - how bad or not is it?

My doc has suggested we try IVF; we're both healthy with no indicators of problems to conceive - but I'm anxious to get this going... I'm 38 and haven't been able to conceive on my own in about a year. I'm nervous about injections and side effects of the drugs - also the egg retrieval and transfer process. What is it really like?

After trying for 4+ years, I'm actually much more at ease now that I've started the IVF process. At least now I know I am moving towards a goal. The stress of trying every month was really getting to me.  I feel much more in control now and that puts me at ease.

Hey. Having taken every shot known to men - I am happy to answer that too. The initial shots don't hurt. The ones to the belly. They just drive you crazy.(Very emotional, cry all the time). But that was just me - other people react differently. The later shots - such as progesterone if you have to do that one - hurt! Really hurt. But you might not need to do those. It's a case by case basis. Do you know which shots you have to do?

I'm currently in the middle if the ivf process. Hasn't been as bad as what I imagined. Headaches and now bloated, but no crying and my husband is still alive! Thankfully everything is going smoothly so far. Nurses at my dots office are amazing. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Did you get a second opinion if IVF is highly recommended? I would try first other things, because the medication can cause some big side effects - it has to be thought about it. How about accupuncture or some homeopathic remedies?

If this cycle is a bust, I'll be starting on bcp next Thurs!!

I'm nervous about the injections too!! I start them in about 13 ish days, so can let you know then what they're like. Other ladies have said you get use to them and the first one is the worst by far. Most have reported headaches to be the main issue but drinking loads of water helps. 
​I'm 3 days into the nose spray and so far no real symptoms.
