Genetic Counseling?

Question

Has anyone had to do this? If so what does it entail? Re says my grandchildren may be a carrier of the  
​Fragile X  mutation. If I have kids that is. Now I'm worried.

I wouldn't be worried but I'd consider going for the genetic counselling so you can have the results explained and ask your questions.  Good luck.

I am also in the gray zone. There are no instances of an individual in the gray zone having children with fragile X. Your children, however, will need to be tested as they may carry a higher number of repetitions than you and could possibly pass it on to your grandchildren. You do not need genetic counseling for this. Your children should definitely be tested and if they are found to be carriers, they should meet with a genetic counselor. It's really just something your future generations should be aware of. Don't worry!

Actually my results are: 28-41 intermediate/grey zone . Let me know what u think?! This is what google says:

Intermediate: Between 41 and 58 repeats is a "gray zone." Fragile X genes in this range are less stable. When the gene is passed on, the number of repeats may increase, but usually not enough to cause a problem. The child would not have fragile X.

I'm a genetic counsellor.  Usually an appointment will involve reviewing your medical and family history and talking about testing options or results.  Has your re already tested you for fragile x?  If yes the genetic counsellor would review your results with you and discuss how they impact you and other family members including future generations.  The appointment is about getting additional information and answering your questions.
