The first week or so was really painful but then it got better. My baby wanted to marathon nurse for the first 48 hrs of her life which made my nipples raw. The gel pads helped a lot.

My son was a natural and had a perfect latch but my nipples still took a beating those first two weeks, the lactation consultant and public health nurse said nothing was wrong with his latch he just had a strong one. I seriously thought my nipples were going to fall off and I would bite a wooden spoon every time he latched on. Worth it in the end though!

I was told using loofahs and scrubbing your nipples in the months before breast feeding helps to toughen them up donit doesn't hurt as bad?

no it didnt hurt at all. i thinl its important to use the right positions . i used a boppy pillow lots of help and support.
