No periods

I only have my period a few times a year. I'm 29 and have never had regular periods. I've had it checked and doctors never seem nervous about it. Now wanting a baby and am taking ovulation tests. I do not appear to be ovulating at all. Have a doctor appointment on August 11. Anyone had a similar situation?  I don't know what to expect.
