Period means ovulation means conceive

I was on BC for 10 years maybe more. I stopped in February. Dr told me as long as I had regular period before bc I should go back to them. Before bc I was with af for 5-7 days. Since being off I spot brown 4-5 days prior to af bleed heavy day 1 day 2 is minimal by day 3 it's gone. Should I be concerned? Will this keep me from getting pregnant? I'm getting a period so I am ovulating so in my mind I have a chance. Right???
