ultrasound and dates?

I went yesterday to my doctor for my 1st prenatal visit and they did an ultrasound to confirm the dates.  well from my last period I'm 8 weeks, well I measure 8 weeks which is perfect however 8 weeks ago I was on my period so how could I measure the same weeks? I thought for sure I would b at least 5-7 earlier.   anyone had the same issue?

I just had an ultrasound done today and is measuring my at 14wks 1day when I should be 13wks 2 days based off my last period.  Second time measuring ahead so which one should i be going by?

The method they use to determine your due date. They go off by the first day of your last period, and the first two weeks of your period don't really count. Another thing is about 95% of women don't give birth on their actual due dates and which is why they tell you it could be 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after because of the use of this method!

Your dates are measured from the start of your last period. Does that make sense?
