UK Ladies help?

Hi ladies.

I rang my doctor yesterday, and told her i got a bfp and its my first baby. Over the phone she gave me an estimated due date, asked about health and told me to take folic acid.

She then said she didnt actually need to see me, and she will refer me to the midwife but they wont contact me until i'm 10-12 weeks?

My friends who have all had kids say this is too late and that midwifes normally do a home visit once youve rang your doc.

Can someone confirm this please?

yup this is correct - and really annoying. I took care of myself quit tea seafood the rest only to start spotting in my 12th week just days before my 12 week scan. Had I been given a scan earlier they would have picked up the blighted ovum pregnancy much earlier and I'd not have got so attached.

Here (Manchester) we don't even speak to GP. Just go straight to midwife get an appt to see them n then they send your info of for booking appt at about 8weeks.

That does seem a little late. I was told I didn't need to see a doctor unless there was a problem and had first appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks. Gotta wait until 12 weeks for a scan.

I had a booking appt at 8 weeks and scan at 12. Didn't see anyone before then the doctors weren't interested

I met with my healthcare assistant at GP who forwarded some info to the midwife I was told they Will contact me between 8-10 weeks for my booking app I too thought this was late but as I'm already 7 weeks I'm not too concerned. I'm from Shropshire UK. hope the comments ease your mind

I think it just depends on where you live. I had my booking appointment with the midwife at 10 weeks and have my scan next week, I'll be 13 weeks by then!

I had a booking appointment with my midwife at 8 weeks pregnant, then had my scan 4 weeks later! That does sound a little late! Xxx

Here in the US doctors won't see you until you're 10 weeks, so it's definitely normal here. Then they see you about another month later and tell you the sex of your baby :)

Here in the US the earliest they will schedule your first prenatal visit is 8 weeks, unless there is something they are concerned about :)

I think you're meant to have a 'booking in appt' with the midwife at 8 weeks. I did when I was pregnant with my little man. Im from surrey UK xxx
